Stockport Chess Club's annual buzzer tournament with mince pies

Report from 2025

30 players from 8 clubs competed in this year's festive event with plentiful mince pies.

Allan Beardsworth won with 5.5/6 with Phil Armstrong and Mustafa Merchant sharing 2nd place on 5/6. The U1600 grading prize was won by Dylan Prothero in 4th place on 4.5/6

4 winners drawn at random won spot prizes of Terry's Chocolate Oranges.

2026 Xmas Lightning

A 6 round Swiss tournament open to all, with moves to be made on a 10 second buzzer.

With cash prizes and mince pies.

When?

The 2026 event is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday 22nd December 2026

The tournament starts at 7.30 pm (but if entering on the night please do so before 7.15 pm).

Where?

The Ladybrook Hotel, Fir Road, Bramhall, SK7 2NP

Playing area is upstairs: go straight through the bar area (possibly stopping to pick up a drink), turn left and through the double doors before heading up the stairs on the right.

 

Entries

Entry fee is £10.00, please pay cash on the night. All entry fees returned as prizes, including Grading prizes.

Allan Beardsworth won with 6/6 with Andy Stoker finishing 2nd on 5/6. There were three grading prizes, two of which were split between players on 4/6 and the U-1300 went to young Benedict Robinson with 3.5/6
